Peter Wakkie

Peter Wakkie was appointed to the Supervisory Board of ABN AMRO Group N.V. on 18 December 2009 and ABN AMRO Bank N.V. and Fortis Bank (Nederland) N.V. (as per 1 July 2010, merged with ABN AMRO Bank N.V.) on 1 April 2010.

He began his career with the law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek in 1972, where he eventually became Partner and finally Managing Partner. He played an important and successful role in many large corporate law cases for well known companies.

In 2003, he moved to Royal Ahold N.V., where he became Chief Corporate Governance Counsel and a member of the Corporate Executive Board. He was responsible for solving the multiple investigations and lawsuits that faced Ahold following the events of February 2003, as well as establishing a first class corporate governance structure. Subsequently, he was heavily involved in Ahold’s divestment program and became chief architect of the company’s corporate responsibility strategy. He retired from Ahold at the end of 2009.

In 2010, Peter Wakkie, started the law firm Spinath & Wakkie B.V. together with Ilan Spinath.
