The firm Hope & Co. was located in two buildings in Amsterdam: Keizersgracht 579-581. As everyone knew that the company resided at this address, a sign with the name of the company was considered unnecessary. Photo circa 1950.

The firm Hope & Co. funded in 1803, with Barings & Co., the loan to the United States for the purchase of Louisiana from France under Napoleon. This map, from 1825, shows that this purchase widened the United States considerably to the west.
