Sustainability
How we can make a difference

In line with ABN AMRO Clearing’s purpose, “Leading the way to safe and transparent markets”, sustainability is firmly rooted in the organisation and embedded in the way we work. We seek to understand and manage the impact our activities have on the environment and society.
Sustainable Operations and Social Impact
ABN AMRO Clearing has established a Climate Strategy aimed at reducing our environmental footprint, lowering energy consumption, and compensating for CO₂ emissions. A strong governance framework supports our sustainability efforts, helping to ensure that environmental considerations remain embedded in our decision-making processes.
By monitoring our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, we gain insight into the environmental impact of our operations. Given the significant role IT plays in operations, we aim to continuously improve our data centre sustainability by enhancing energy efficiency and increasing renewable energy sourcing. Our ambition is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 through a combination of increased use of renewable energy and the continuation of our Climate Impact and Reforestation Programme in partnership with Land Life Company.
ABN AMRO Clearing believes that staff engagement and awareness is key to contributing to sustainability. We have a strong culture of philanthropy and charity support in our regions where staff choose the causes close to their hearts and have a strong local impact.
Beyond our operations, we seek to contribute to broader societal impact. Through our partnership with Frontclear, we help strengthen financial infrastructure in emerging markets. In addition, employees volunteer their expertise to support the resilience, efficiency, and accessibility of local financial markets.
Clients and Industry
ESG considerations are integrated into our onboarding and client lifecycle processes through dedicated assessments and questionnaires, enabling us to review sustainability-related risks on a regular basis.
By maintaining an ongoing dialogue in the industry on sustainability topics, we help raise awareness and encourage collaborative efforts to address environmental, social, and governance challenges. This approach allows us to better understand sustainability risks and opportunities while supporting the development of more sustainable business practices.
We are a clearing member on more than twenty-five major Energy & Commodity exchanges around the world, providing clients access to markets such as European Allowances for carbon emissions and are constantly working on designing market entry strategies to provide access to global power markets.
As an official supporter of the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchange initiative, we participate in discussions and contribute to the development of ESG guidelines for stock, derivative and commodity exchanges.
