Dumas

The historical collection is not only used to decorate bank offices, but it serves as a basis for temporary and permanent exhibitions on the history of the bank. Most exhibitions are held in ABN AMRO buildings, but some pieces from the collection also make their way to museums and public archives.

Ronald Ophuis’s piece Schedel (‘skull’) and Carel Lanters’s Nimf (‘nymph’) will be shown as part of Silence out Loud, an exhibition put together by Joost Zwagerman (1963-2015) to answer the question of what silence in fact is.

Various works from the ABN AMRO collection are on permanent display in the Cobramuseum in Amstelveen. ABN AMRO has a special collection of works by Dutch Cobra such as Karel Appel, Constant and Lucebert. Several of them are out on long-term loan to the Cobramuseum, where they can be viewed.

This exhibition was curated by artist Erik Mattijssen and ABN AMRO art curator Danila Cahen. It includes works by Elspeth Diederix, Adam Colton, Heringa/Van Kalsbeek, Irene Fortuyn, Erik van Lieshout and Hans van den Ban. It is on permanent display in Zwolle, in the entrance hall of the offices on Grote Voort 247.

Named for a series by artist Marijke van Warmerdam that was recently added to ABN AMRO’s collection, Another day is an exhibition of the bank’s 2014-2015 acquisitions. The display includes pieces by Germaine Kruip, Zachery Formwalt, Saskia Noor Van Imhoff and Antonis Pittas.

From 26 November 2015 to 6 March 2016, the Hermitage Amsterdam will host the exhibition Spectral Spectrum by visual artist Melvin Moti. For this presentation Moti, winner of the fifth ABN AMRO Art Prize, combines his own work with pieces from ABN AMRO’s collection.

Cluster Illusion

Parallel to his presentation in the Hermitage Amsterdam, Moti has a second presentation in the lobby of ABN AMRO’s head office at Zuidas in Amsterdam with work from Cluster Illusion (2012). Pieces from this series, which has never before been shown in the Netherlands, were acquired as part of the ABN AMRO Art Prize.

Amorous Frog

Artwork Amorous Frog is on loan at the Jan Cunen Museum in Oss, as part of a solo exhibition on Gijs Assmann. As well as a wide variety of Assmann’s sculptures, installations, drawings and paintings, the exhibition presents four new artworks related to his 2013 sculpture Tribute to Mandela.

During the Open Towers Day, 21 historic and modern towers in Amsterdam were open to the public. On this day, ABN AMRO’s head office at Zuidas organised guided art tours, led by art curator Danila Cahen, as well as guided tours about ABN AMRO’s architecture and history, led by historian Jaap-Jan Mobron.

At this fair, 250 renowned art dealers from around the world present the best works in their collections. A selection of art works from ABN AMRO’s art collection was exhibited at ABN AMRO’s Lounge at the TEFAF.

Since 1998 Liet Heringa and Maarten van Kalsbeek have worked together under the name Heringa/Van Kalsbeek. For the exhibition Nachtvangst - Sculptures by Heringa/Van Kalsbeek ABN AMRO has made the duo’s Marcks jumping Chinese available on loan to the Stedelijk Museum ’s Hertogenbosch.

Magdalena

The painting Magdalena was on loan at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, to be shown as part of the Marlene Dumas exhibition The Image as Burden. This was Dumas's first comprehensive solo exhibition in the Netherlands in twenty years. Almost two hundred paintings and drawings where on display from private and museum collections all over the world.

Artist Jasper Krabbé and ABN AMRO curator Danila Cahen conducted a guided tour in ABN AMRO’s main office that included works in the entrance hall and the exhibition Fine as Frog’s Hair. This tour was part of a special event organised for ABN AMRO clients. Registration for the tour had been announced in the September issue of the ABN AMRO magazine BIJZONDER.
