Paralympic sports

The Netherlands has many paralympic athletes who pursue sports at a high level. As a Partner of the Future, we support these people in developing their talents, helping them to become tomorrow’s top athletes. ABN AMRO collaborates with the paralympic divisions of four sports associations and the 1% FairShare partnership with Fond Gehandicaptensport (Disabled Sports Fund).

Partnership with paralympic division of four sports associations

In December 2014, ABN AMRO signed a contract with the paralympic divisions of the following associations: Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association (KNLTB), Dutch Athletics Association (Atletiekunie), Dutch Basketball Association (NBB) and Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB). We are working together to develop and improve the position of disabled sportspeople, for example by organising joint campaigns and activities such as the Paralympic Talent Camp.

Paralympic Talent Camp

ABN AMRO and the paralympic associations mentioned above organised the first Paralympic Talent Camp in May 2015. The camp is designed to get participants ready for a life as a top athlete and, ultimately, for the Paralympic Games. Forty talented young people between the ages of 12 and 20 spent five days together training intensively. In addition to their own sport, they also took part in joint power training sessions. The camp also devoted attention to various aspects of life as a top athlete, such as how to use social media during your sports career. The second Paralympic Talent Camp is currently being planned.

1% FairShare partnership with Fonds Gehandicaptensport

We believe it is important for athletes with a disability to be encouraged to discover and develop their talent. ABN AMRO is a 1% FairShare partner of Fonds Gehandicaptensport. This means that we donate at least 1% on top of our total sports sponsorship budget to Fonds Gehandicaptensport. In this capacity, we specifically support tennis and field hockey, both competitive and recreational.
We have supported the elections for Sports Talent of the Year since 2014. By doing so, we team up with Fonds Gehandicaptensport to put all disabled athletes in the spotlight and share their personal story with the Netherlands.
