I started out at ABN AMRO as a trainee ten years ago, and I haven’t regretted my decision for a single moment! After graduating, I wanted to pursue a career in HR at a large company – and that’s exactly what I’ve done at ABN AMRO. Since joining the company, I have held various HR positions and have worked for the bank in Europe, Asia and the United States. I am now Director of Reward & Performance Management – and I got where I am today thanks in part to the traineeship.
There was plenty of time for reflection and supervision. I really got to know myself better.

Intensive, positive time
My time as a trainee was incredibly interactive and positive, and it pointed me in the right direction. I took tests and did role playing, and there was plenty of time for reflection and supervision. I really got to know myself better. The traineeship was also a lot like school, which I enjoyed, being a recent graduate. We started out with a group of twelve trainees and spent a lot of time together. It was like being in a small class.
The best thing I got out of my traineeship – besides my career at ABN AMRO – is my wife. Friends and family sometimes tease us about this and call us a ‘career couple’…
