Most people think of ABN AMRO as a bank or a lender, but behind the scenes the organisation is increasingly starting to look like an IT company. That’s what I found out when I joined as a trainee after having graduated from university. For me, that was perfect because I’m at my best when I can combine business and IT in my work. I found the ideal mix at the Transfer department in Global Markets.

In other words, we want to give them the ultimate user experience. That way, we can make sure they get what they want, return to the website or use the app again and again. To do so, however, we need to study our clients and their behaviour closely. This is done in the UX Lab.
I was the sort of child who carried a screwdriver around in his pocket and was always trying to take things apart. It drove my parents crazy. But that’s how I am: I want to know how things work, how they fit together. Later, I used to spend whole days tinkering about with computers. When I was older, I went to Bucharest to study Computer Science and exchanged my screwdriver for datasets. I became fascinated by the idea of using data to improve decision-making.

Interestingly though, I’ve been seeing a remarkable shift lately: nowadays, many graduates are finding jobs in the financial sector as service designers, also known as design thinkers or strategic designers. I’m an example of one.
