Your job

The Compliance Department centres on compliance risks. Its mission is to assist senior management in identifying, assessing and effectively managing the compliance risks of ABN AMRO. It has developed a risk-based approach designed to ensure that every reasonable measure (including policies, procedures, instructions, IT systems, monitoring methods, awareness and training activities, objective-setting, incentives, deterrent measures and sanctions) is taken in order to avoid or reduce the possibility of such compliance risks occurring and to minimise the damage if such a risk should nonetheless occur. The Policy, Regulatory Developments and Training function has three key objectives:

  • to assess the impact of regulatory developments on the businesses;
  • to ensure that Compliance policies are kept up to date;
  • to run the Compliance training programme.

  In addition, the role is responsible for providing support to Advisors’ business lines where required..
 The role has primary responsibility for the three bullet pints outlined above.
 The Director, Compliance will be dedicated to doing this in a way that: 

  • upholds the firm’s legal, regulatory and ethical standards;
  • fosters partnerships and collaboration throughout the firm;
  • heightens awareness of relevant regulatory issues;
  • delivers consistent monitoring, challenge and innovative solutions; and
  • works in collaboration within the Compliance team to deliver the desired outcomes in relation to the monitoring activities performed.

Your profile

The key requirements of the role are: 

  • to assess the impact of regulatory developments, both at EU level and locally on all business lines in the UK;
  • to identify relevant regulatory developments, both at EU and UK level;
  • to identify training needs arising from those regulatory developments;
  • to facilitate training on the above, either through external providers or, in tandem with Business Advisors, through face to face training;
  • to provide regular updates to stakeholders on the status of implementing regulatory developments;
  • to liaise with Head Office colleagues on changes in (and new) Compliance policies and Compliance training programmes;
  • to work with Compliance colleagues, identify and share best practices, encourage collaboration and further improve consistency of approach across teams and regions;
  • to ensure that all relevant issues identified through monitoring and/or those providing Compliance advice, are considered and incorporated into policy, procedures, training plans and/or materials;
  • to maintain the Compliance Handbook and Compliance Operating Procedures, so that their contents reflect both Head Office policy and UK regulatory requirements, and can be evidenced as such.
  • The role requires the individual to assist with the establishment, implementation and maintenance of adequate policies and procedures sufficient to achieve compliance with ABN AMRO’s obligations under relevant regulations.

  Knowledge and Experience

  • Ideally degree educated, or a strong academic record with extensive compliance experience.
  • Professional qualifications, such as the CISI Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possible legal background (or equivalent) to demonstrate legal  interpretation of applicable rules and regulations
  • A strong knowledge of the FCA and PRA handbooks  
  • and demonstrated ability to undertake broad compliance monitoring activities by demonstrating knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements in relation to all business lines located in the UK.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely on complex regulatory compliance issues at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to produce written documents articulating key aspects of issues identified, along with full impact analysis on relevant business areas
  • A good understanding of relevant existing, and emerging regulatory requirements.
