ABN AMRO to change payment packages for retail clients

From 1 October 2020, ABN AMRO will switch to a single basic payment package for all retail clients – the BasisPakket Betalen. The package includes a current account, bank card and access to online banking for € 1.70 per month. Clients can buy additional payment products such as a credit card or a second bank card separately. This means that in future they will be free to select payment products according to their own needs and will only pay for the products they want.

Today, ABN AMRO Bank has successfully issued and priced EUR 1 billion of deeply subordinated securities that qualify as Additional Tier 1 capital under CRR. With investor demand reaching EUR 10 billion, ABN AMRO was able to benefit from favourable market conditions and set the coupon at 4 3/8%.

With reference to the Terms and Conditions of the EUR 1.5 billion Subordinated Fixed-to-Fixed Rate Notes due June 2025 callable on Year 5 under the Programme for the issuance of Medium Term Notes of ABN AMRO Bank N.V. with ISIN XS1253955469 ABN AMRO Bank N.V. announces to exercise its right to redeem these Notes in full on 30 June 2020. Trading will be suspended as of 26 June 2020.

Europe is about to spend 750 billion euros – around 6 percent of the European economy – to stimulate the restart of the economy. It’s a realistic plan, in my eyes. The European Commission calculated that economic growth could accelerate by 1.8 percent next year and even 2.3 percent up to 2024.

The Dutch government has announced that every region should follow its own route towards relaxing the restrictions. This is a logical decision. Infection rates, hospital capacities and numerous other influencing factors show considerable differences across the country. Why then should the stricter rules that the Randstad conurbation and the provinces of Noord-Brabant and Limburg demand be imposed on Groningen and Twente, where the data are considerably less serious?

The reconstructed economy should not be modelled on the industrial structure of the 1950s

The air is tingling with a sense of cheerful optimism. Throughout the entire Western world, countries are cautiously lifting their lockdowns. Governments, with their frequent references to “a war against the virus” and recovery “based on a Marshall Plan”, are reinforcing expectations of reconstruction optimism and strong recovery. Not only can companies reopen for business, they will benefit from all the demand that has accumulated. Investors are finding it almost impossible to decide between numerous new opportunities. In many cases, reconstruction– after a war, or following a natural disaster – is driven by large government projects to create jobs, turning a sharp recession into strong growth. The economic term for this pattern (which is caused in part by the simple fact that steep growth is necessary if you are starting from zero) is V-shaped recovery.
