Discounter Action voted ABN AMRO Best Store Chain of the Netherlands

Store chain Action is 2014's winner of the ABN AMRO Best Store Chain of the Netherlands award. The Webshop Award Netherlands 2014 has been claimed by, and the Cross Channel Award 2014 was won by Paradigit. The latter two of these public awards are new and were presented for the first time this year. Retail Executive 2014 was pocketed by Raymond Cloosterman, founder of Rituals. And Coolblue's management team succeeded in seizing Retail Management Team 2014, both prizes based on the opinions of fellow retailers. All awards were presented today during ABN AMRO's Retailer of the Year Gala event, held in Santpoort.

During the past few months, over 350,000 consumers cast their votes on their favourite store chains, judging who deserved to be dubbed ABN AMRO Best Store Chain of the Netherlands. Participating customers assessed store chains on nine aspects in total, split up into three categories. For starters, they were asked to judge the store's pricing policy, rating value for money, price levels, and promotions & special offers. Then they rated three aspects of customer services: service, expertise, and customer-friendliness. And finally, participants were asked to judge the product range, by stating their opinions on product assortment, atmosphere, and innovation.

A similar public voting method was used to assess shops for the Webshop Award Netherlands. But in addition to the aspects listed above, questions focused on delivery, payment and user-friendliness of the website. Eventually these scores resulted into 31 category winners, which were announced on 15 September. These nominees all had a shot at winning the overall title, by earning the votes of their customers and also getting the highest scores on the key aspects. According to a large majority within the Netherlands, non-food discounter Action is the best at serving the interests of the market, and therefore can now proudly call itself the Best Store Chain of the Netherlands 2014. This year also marked the launch of the ABN AMRO Webshop Award Netherlands. Besides these two public awards, we also presented the Cross Channel Award. Store chain Paradigit triumphed over 28 other nominated cross-channel retailers.

Retail Executive 2014 and Retail Management Team 2014

Raymond Cloosterman, founder of Rituals, managed to capture Retail Executive 2014, surpassing all other nominees. The full Top 5 Retail Executives comprised:

3.     Bart van den Nieuwenhof, La Place
4.     Daniël Ropers,
5.     Colette Cloosterman, Jumbo

Coolblue's management team gathered the largest number of peer votes for the Retail Management Team 2014 award. The Top 5 for Retail Management Team comprised:
1.     Coolblue
2.     Hunkemöller
3.     Action
4.     La Place
5.     Kruidvat

The winners of both awards were determined by the following procedure. Initially, fellow retailers voted in a preliminary ballot on which Retail Executive and which Retail Management Team they wished to see nominated. The results were used to compose a Top 10 Retail Executives and a Top 10 Retail Management Teams. In the second voting round, retailers were allowed to vote for one Retail Executive and one Retail Management Team from the top 10. This created a Top 5 for both categories. And finally, during ABN AMRO's Retailer of the Year Gala event, retailers were given the opportunity to cast their final vote. In total, over 800 retailers participated in the voting.
