Earlier today the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (Autoriteit Consument en Markt, ‘ACM’) published a report (in dutch) about overdrafts.

The ACM report confirms that overdraft competition and transparency are at satisfactory levels. The rates also fall within the margins defined by law.

ABN AMRO adopts a conservative approach to overdraft facilities. Standard checking accounts do not include an overdraft facility. Customers may add this product as an optional feature. Another optional service sends a text message alert if the customer is or is likely to become overdrawn.
