Sustainable Development Goals - Action day

News item -

Today, exactly five years ago, the world embraced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), seventeen goals that guide us towards a more inclusive, just and sustainable society by 2030.

On this special day we, ABN AMRO, together with hundreds of Dutch companies, NGOs, educational organisations and government institutions will participate in a campaign to express our support for the SDGs of the United Nations. We expect that around a thousand SDG flags will be hoisted!

ABN AMRO supporting the SDGs

In 2015, UN member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At the heart of this agenda are seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), covering everything from ending poverty to protecting human rights and combating climate change. In 2017, ABN AMRO identified three SDGs as most closely related to the bank’s sustainability approach – where the bank believes it has most to contribute, both in terms of positive impact and in reducing the negative effects of its business*.

In September 2019, ABN AMRO became a founding signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Banking. By signing the principles, we have committed to bringing our business into line with the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement, thereby joining a coalition of 130 banks worldwide. Together, these banks represent more than USD 47 trillion in assets. In 2020, we will report on our progress against the principles.
