Dutch railway company NS was among the winners at the Computable Awards gala on Thursday evening 6 November, Its contactless payment system was proclaimed IT Project of the Year 2014. Starting this Spring, travellers at all railway stations in the Netherlands will be able to pay by simply pressing their card against a reader.
This Computable Award is a welcome recognition for NS. The rollout of contactless payment in the Netherlands is a massive operation. ABN AMRO played a supporting role in this project and has seen first-hand how professionally it has been managed by NS. A well-deserved award, for which heartfelt congratulations are in order.
Contactless payment gaining foothold
In more and more places, consumers have the option of contactless payment. Many retailers are interested because it is fast and safe, and convenient for customers. At the moment, there are 47,000 points of sale offering contactless payment, and the number is steadily growing. The number of cards in circulation that can be used for contactless payment is rising by the day, too.
