Circl, a circular pavilion in Amsterdam, officially opened

Circl, a new circular building in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district, was officially opened today by Kees van Dijkhuizen, CEO of ABN AMRO. Circl is an initiative of ABN AMRO. The bank plans to share the knowledge of circularity that it acquired while developing and constructing this circular building and to use this knowledge to advise clients. ABN AMRO recorded its experiences with this project in a report published today entitled Toekomstbestendig vastgoed bouwen: Aan de slag met circulaire verdienmodellen (Future-proof building: getting down to business using circular earning models). The report also describes the bank’s vision on opportunities presented by the circular economy in the construction and real estate industry and new earning models.

ABN AMRO nominates Christian Bornfeld as new Chief Innovation & Technology Officer per 1 March 2018

The Supervisory Board announces that it intends to appoint Mr Christian Bornfeld (1976) as Member of the Executive Board and Chief Innovation & Technology Officer of ABN AMRO. The appointment is subject to approval by the regulators and advice of the Employee Council. Mr Bornfeld will join ABN AMRO on 1 December 2017, and he will start as member of the Executive Board and as Chief Innovation & Technology Officer effective 1 March 2018. Mr Johan van Hall, currently Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Innovation & Technology Officer, will hand-over his remaining tasks beginning 2018 and resign from the Executive Board effective 1 March 2018.

In the latest edition of Beleggingsvisie ABN AMROs private bank gives profit-taking as the most important reason for this decision. ABN AMRO MeesPierson has also reduced its overweight position in real estate to equal weight. The bank’s equities position and bond portfolio remain unchanged.

More than a million Tikkie users

Pay-back app Tikkie now has more than a million unique users. This landmark comes a little more than a year after its launch by ABN AMRO, in June 2016. Tikkie is the fastest-growing payment app in the Netherlands: it reached and passed the previous landmark of half a million users in May 2017.

ABN AMRO helps clients improve the sustainability of their homes

ABN AMRO is helping homeowners see in an instant how to make their homes more sustainable. A free online tool, the Energy Saving Check, offers a quick overview of how sustainable the user’s home is and what 'green' modifications will yield: in terms of payback time, comfort and environmental contribution. For example, in less than a minute homeowners can calculate how much they can save by adding extra insulation, fitting a new central heating boiler or installing solar panels. The Energy Saving Check (Energie Bespaarcheck) has been developed by De Energiebespaarders, ABN AMRO's partner for residential sustainability.

The Dutch rate their health care a 7.0

Overall, the Dutch are predominantly positive about the quality of healthcare in the Netherlands. The average rating is 7.0 out of 10, as shown by an ABN AMRO MeesPierson survey. Nearly 1 in 4 participants assessed Dutch health care as 'good' and half stated it is 'adequate'. A small minority of 11 per cent rated care as unsatisfactory.

More commitment and cooperation needed to allow social enterprise to grow

The Netherlands boasts increasing numbers of social entrepreneurs, running their businesses not simply to make money but also to serve a social purpose. The tremendous potential for growth in this young market remains sadly underutilised. Paving the way for long-term growth will require funding of around 4.5 billion euros. Impact investors generally have a strong preference for companies in the growth phase, however, and most social enterprises have not yet reached that stage. A stronger market structure is also needed, including traditional companies, government authorities and consumers. These conclusions are presented in ABN AMRO’s report ‘De romantiek voorbij: de noodzaak van marktontwikkeling voor sociale ondernemingen ’, which was published earlier today.
