Groningen University (RUG) is the first Dutch university to start sending students a Tikkie payment request so that they can pay their tuition fees on time. The goal: to make sure that fewer students miss lectures because of payment arrears.
Owning a fortune doesn't do much to increase happiness. In a recent survey held by ABN AMRO MeesPierson, wealthy Dutch people rated their happiness in life nearly equally high as those who are not as well off. The rich reported their happiness levels at an average of 8 out of 10, while the average Dutch person assigns their life a score of 7.7. Perceived success levels among the two groups are practically the same as well. Wealthy men and women rated their own success at 7.6 and their non-affluent counterparts' results averaged 7.2.

The number of houses sold this year is likely to be significantly higher than first projected. According to its latest Housing Market Monitor, ABN AMRO Group Economics now expects transaction numbers to increase by 15% relative to 2016, quite a jump compared with its earlier forecast of 5%. House prices are also likely to rise at a faster pace than initially anticipated. Group Economics sees prices rising by 7% in 2017 rather than 5% as they suggested earlier, bringing the house price average closer and closer to its 2008 record high.
ABN AMRO and Hartstichting, the Dutch Heart Foundation, have announced that they will join forces in the fight for a smoke-free future. Hartstichting and the bank are signing a partnership agreement today, bringing this goal a little closer.
ABN AMRO has entered into a relationship with Root Capital, a US-based agricultural impact investor, to provide impact finance to small agricultural organisations. Last month the first loan participations were closed, serving several coffee cooperatives in Latin America and reaching 4,000 coffee farmers.
If the Netherlands is to succeed in its ambition to have a fully circular economy by the year 2050, thousands of large and small companies will have to change their business models. ABN AMRO draws this conclusion in its report “Alles van waarde: circulariteit door de sectoren heen”, which was released today . The bank provides support to companies that are going circular with new funding models. These funding models contribute to ABN AMRO's aspiration for 2020 to have financed at least a hundred deals with a total of one billion euros spent on circular company assets. The subsequent emission savings will add up to one million tonnes of CO2.
Stichting administratiekantoor beheer financiële Instellingen (NL Financial Investments, “NLFI”), on behalf of the Dutch state, has agreed to sell 65 million depositary receipts (“Depositary Receipts”) representing ordinary shares in ABN AMRO Group N.V. (“ABN AMRO Group”) for a price of EUR 22,75 per Depositary Receipt. ABN AMRO will not receive any of the transaction proceeds.
Stichting administratiekantoor beheer financiële instellingen (NL Financial Investments, “NLFI”), on behalf of the Dutch state, today announced the intention to sell up to 65 million of depositary receipts (“Depositary Receipts”) representing ordinary shares in ABN AMRO Group N.V. (“ABN AMRO Group”). These Depositary Receipts represent approximately up to 7% of the share capital of ABN AMRO Group.

ABN AMRO MeesPierson has made some updates to its sector weightings. ABN AMRO’s Dutch private bank has downgraded the overweight position for the information technology sector to equal weight, while at the same time upgrading the utilities sector from underweight to equal weight. Given the cyclical appeal of industry and luxury consumer goods and services, the bank remains overweight there. ABN AMRO MeesPierson stays underweight in the energy, telecommunications and consumer goods sectors.
ABN AMRO is using personalised videos as part of its standard recruitment strategy to attract talents to fill specialised IT and finance positions. The videos are distributed through social media and other relevant channels using an appropriate tone of voice. They mainly target people with at least three years working experience. The bank has teamed up with StoryTEQ for this recruiting initiative.
ABN AMRO is the first bank to enable clients to make payments directly from their current accounts using a wearable.
