Organisation

To help us embed sustainability throughout our organisation, we have established dedicated sustainable development resources and teams in each of our Business Units (BUs). They work together with line managers, who share responsibility for sustainable development.

At Group level, we have a dedicated Sustainability department that defines and coordinates the Group-wide sustainability strategy - via a Sustainability Council - and supports its execution. It also serves as a centre of expertise and as a catalyst for our business. The department is located in the newly formed Group Public Affairs unit that is responsible for analysing and engaging in the political, economic, social and environmental arenas globally.

The Managing Board acts as the governing and strategic decision-making body for sustainable development. Sustainability is on the agenda for the Board meeting twice a year. Individual Managing Board members are also encouraged to discuss the sustainability implementation process in their bi-monthly meetings with BU CEOs.

In 2006-2007, we focused on implementating sustainable development in the BUs. In each BU, dedicated teams help line management to implement sustainability initiatives and to raise awareness on environmental, social and ethical issues. The BU teams work in close collaboration with Sustainability at head office, sharing ideas and best practices via Communities of Practice (CoPs).
