Not every child in the Netherlands has the same opportunities. The place where you're born or grow up often determines the possibilities that are open to you. Some children rarely get the chance to play sports, visit a museum, go to the theatre or discover other new things. As a result, they miss out on experiences that could broaden their horizons and show them what they can achieve in life.
ABN AMRO Foundation aims to give as many children as possible the chance to experience something new. That’s why the Foundation organises activities that more than 20,000 primary school children take part in every year. Over 5,000 ABN AMRO volunteers help out at these activities.
Serving society since 2001
ABN AMRO plays an important role in society. The Foundation was established in 2001 to address social inequality. In 2017, the Foundation decided to focus all its attention on children and equal opportunities, so that as many children as possible get the space they need to grow. To make this happen, the Foundation partners with around 150 primary schools in the Netherlands. Many of the pupils at these schools grow up in challenging home environments.
Activities that make a difference for children
Each year, the Foundation organises 200 activities for primary schools, such as sports days and museum visits. These activities offer children knowledge and experiences they wouldn’t otherwise get at school or at home. They have fun and forget their worries for a while. It helps them build self-confidence, empowering them to dream bigger about their own future.
Employee volunteers making a difference
ABN AMRO employees are there to help out at all the activities. Their biggest contribution as volunteers is attention and positive energy. Connecting with the children’s world not only creates understanding but also fuels the drive to change things. These small moments can make a big difference.

ABN AMRO Foundation fosters connection, imagination and wonder – and a future full of possibilities.
Our contribution: time, attention and knowledge
Every year, ABN AMRO employees can dedicate one working week to volunteer activities. They can participate in one of the Foundation’s initiatives or choose their own volunteer activity to contribute their time or expertise to. The Foundation also organises events to share knowledge about equal opportunities and explore ways to promote them.
ABN AMRO’s social impact
Social impact is about equal opportunities, financial inclusivity and financial resilience. It’s about social challenges and how we at ABN AMRO can contribute – together with, and for, our clients – to a society where everyone can join in.
