Differences make us better and stronger

Who you are and who you're attracted to – that defines you as an individual. There are many ways to feel free. But being completely able to be yourself and live how you want, is probably the most important of all. That’s exactly the kind of culture ABN AMRO wants to see. Within the bank and society as a whole. A culture where everyone can be themselves. And where you can openly show who you find attractive. Below you can read how we work hard at this. Different cultures and backgrounds are shaping our society. ABN AMRO is part of that society, so we want you to see it reflected in us. In who we are as a bank and as an employer. We don’t believe differences create distance between people. No, we believe multiple cultures together can drive progress. That together, we can achieve something bigger and better than on our own. But to make that happen, everyone needs to be able to be themselves and get equal opportunities.

Just over half of all Dutch people are women. That's why it's worrying that women don't always feel seen, heard and valued. We want to prevent that at all costs. Women in vulnerable positions should be able to count on our support. Women who trust us as 'their' bank should be satisfied with how we do our work. And women who want to achieve something and make their dreams come true, should get fair opportunities with us. ABN AMRO does everything it can to treat everyone the same way. We believe our entire society – not only women – will benefit.

We’ve all seen the footage of countless refugees looking for a new home. Some end up in the Netherlands and are allowed to stay. From that moment on, they become ‘status holders’. But getting to stay here doesn’t mean you can easily find paid work. For status holders, having a fair shot at a job isn’t straightforward at all.

Around 1.2 million people with disabilities in the Netherlands are eager to work. The problem: they hardly get a chance. The outside world focuses on what they struggle with, not what they’re actually good at. ABN AMRO believes everyone with talent should get the space to do something with it. That’s why we give people with disabilities every opportunity to grow.

Under thirty, you have a future ahead of you. Over sixty, a past behind you. But that doesn't mean one of those groups is worth more than the other. In fact, it's the combination of young and old that has value. Someone in their twenties can learn a lot from someone in their fifties, but the same applies the other way around. When it comes to age, we have no prejudices. We only see advantages.
