ABN AMRO has signed the UN Code of Conduct supporting the business community in tackling discrimination against lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people.

Although significant progress has been made in recent years, many countries still lack effective protection against discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.

And so on 26 July, ABN AMRO joined other leading companies, including Calvin Klein, KPMG, Uber, Thyssen Krupp and Pepsi Cola, in Brazil’s Sao Paulo to publicly support the LGBTI community and endorse the UN Standards of Conduct for Business. Silvio Lomnitzer, Head of Strategy & Business Management in Brazil, was there to represent ABN AMRO.

The standards offer guidance to companies on how to meet their responsibility to respect everyone’s rights – including those of LGBTI people. Meeting this benchmark means treating LGBTI people fairly in the workplace, as well as looking at business practice throughout the supply chain to help ensure that discrimination is tackled.
