Every euro the government spends on the Green Projects Scheme mobilises 29 to 34 euros in financing for sustainable projects. This makes the scheme an effective way to accelerate sustainability in the Netherlands, a recently published evaluation by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) shows.

Alignment is key

ABN AMRO Groenbank participates in the Green Projects Scheme together with the Ministries of Infrastructure & Water Management and Finance, the Dutch Bankers’ Association (DBA) and other green banks. To ensure the scheme stays successful in the future, it needs to stayaligned with recent developments such as the National Climate Agreement, the national programme ‘A circular economy in the Netherlands by 2050 and the European Green Deal.

Circular economy

To stay aligned, the scheme needs some adjustments, for example to support the transition to a circular economy in a more targeted way. We’re also looking at ways to reduce the administrative burden, improve social impact assessments and shorten update processes.

Invested funds increased by 8%

Both savers and investors are interested in the scheme. The total invested funds increased by 8% to EUR 4,368 million in 2019.
