ABN AMRO in FX Week’s Top30 Forecasters with best prediction of exchange rate relationships

The European currency gained ground on the US dollar, and the dollar listed higher than the yen. Georgette Boele, currency specialist at ABN AMRO, says the dollar is gradually gaining the upper hand, however, now that market conditions are improving and due to the interest rate outlook. She expects parity between the euro and the dollar to be reached in the third quarter of this year. ‘We foresee a revival of the dollar in the months ahead. At the same time, the European Central Bank’s bond-buying programme will put pressure on the euro.’ Ms Boele also believes that the US Federal Reserve will raise interest rates twice this year. ‘We think the dollar will gain more strength than the markets expect.’
