Immediate access to current accounts for new ABN AMRO clients

From today, new retail clients of ABN AMRO can make payments on the same day without having to wait for a physical debit card. Thanks to the Direct Access’ feature, clients gain access to their account on the same day – after two hours. The two hour waiting period is an additional safety measure.
Once the onboarding process is completed, online payments can be made immediately. Additionally, a digital debit card can be added to Apple Pay or Google Wallet. Uploading information to prove residency in the Netherlands can also be done instantly if required. Clients expect immediate access and convenience. This swift, digital service aligns with those expectations. By streamlining the onboarding process, the transition from opening an account to actual banking becomes simpler and more efficient. The rollout of Direct Access will take place in phases. Starting 9 February, the feature will be available in the latest version of the ABN AMRO app. On 16 February, the nationwide rollout will follow, allowing all new retail clients, both from the Netherlands and internationally, to use the service. This option applies exclusively to single and joint accounts that are fully opened via the ABN AMRO app. Clients must possess an NFC-compatible ID document and smartphone to log in securely without an e.dentifier.
