The number of women at the very top and in middle management positions increased by 2% in 2013. “We’re very pleased with the development of our diversity policy,” Yelly Weidenaar, ABN AMRO’s Head of Diversity & Inclusion, says. “There hasn’t been a large increase in lower senior management positions, but changing this is certainly our priority for 2014.”

Attention to recruiting

We’ve given much attention to recruiting women these pasttwo years. We’ve organised special events so women could be introduced to working at ABN AMRO, which has led to an increase in the total number of female employees. “Now we have to make sure they stay. Data shows that more women than men are leaving ABN AMRO,” Weidenaar says.

Greater focus

ABN AMRO’s diversity policy is aimed not only at women: we also focus ondiversity in cultural backgrounds, disabilities and ages. “Our policy is clearly and widely supported throughout the bank. The importance we attach to diversity is visible both inside and outside the bank. Take, for example, our successful pilot for people with occupational disabilities. We have 23 FTEs available, of which 15 are currently filled.”

Traineeships

55% of trainees at ABN AMRO last year were women, and 23% were from ethnicminorities. “That’s a huge percentage,” Yelly Weidenaar explains enthusiastically.
