ABN AMRO is proud to announce the appointment of Sandra Phlippen as the new Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) at ABN AMRO. Effective as of 1 January 2026, Sandra will lead Group Sustainability, driving the bank’s sustainability ambitions and integrating sustainability into core business operations. Nick Kounis, currently interim Chief Economist, will succeed Sandra as Chief Economist of ABN AMRO.
Sandra's appointment reflects ABN AMRO's commitment to reposition sustainability as a core enabler of our strategy and daily operations to create value for our clients. Sandra has made significant contributions to this area during her tenure as Chief Economist and as Professor of Sustainable Banking at the University of Groningen. Her extensive expertise in economics and sustainability, coupled with her leadership skills, positions her favourably to guide the bank in achieving its strategic goals.
Nick Kounis to become Chief Economist
Starting 1 January 2026, Nick Kounis will step into the role of Chief Economist at ABN AMRO. Over the past years, Nick has been systematically prepared for this position under Sandra’s leadership. With his deep expertise in macroeconomics, financial markets and sustainability, combined with his proven ability to lead high-performing teams, Nick is well-equipped to steer our economic research and strategy.
