Tikkie ends 2025 with impressive figures: Dutch users sent over 170 million Tikkies this year, totalling €8.5 billion in payments. Annual records have been broken once again, marking a notable milestone: one billion paid Tikkies since the app’s launch in 2016.

“Reaching the one billion paid Tikkies mark is a moment we are incredibly proud of,” says Moreno Kensmil, Head of Marketing at Tikkie. “It’s a testament to how embedded Tikkie has become in our daily lives. At the same time, we’re seeing growing interest in the app’s other features, and the number of business users continues to rise.”

89% of all Tikkies paid within 24 hours

Data shows that the platform is firmly integrated in everyday life, with over 10 million users currently. In 2025, Dutch users paid an average of 5.6 Tikkies per second, with 23% of all Tikkies settled within one minute and 65% within an hour. Within 24 hours, 89% of all Tikkies were paid – a slight increase compared to last year. “Food“ was by far the most commonly used description, appearing on nearly 6 million Tikkies, followed by “groceries,” “lunch,” “dinner,” and “pizza.” The average value of a Tikkie is €50.03, almost €3 higher than last year.

Peak activity around King’s Day and holiday allowance

The busiest days of the year traditionally revolve around celebrations and paydays. King’s Night and King’s Day ranked among the top three busiest moments of 2025, with 26 April being the absolute peak. With 694,577 paid Tikkies, King’s Day 2025 marked the busiest day in Tikkie’s entire history. Many of the over one million Tikkies sent for amounts under €1 in 2025 were to access public toilets during King’s Day and King’s Night. A striking number two on the list was 23 May – on this day, most Dutch people received their holiday allowance, and nearly 700 thousand Tikkies were paid as well.

Splitting group expenses and deposit refunds gaining popularity

Alongside payment requests, Tikkie continues to grow in other areas. “Groepie,“ the feature that lets groups track and settle shared expenses without hassle, attracted over 600 thousand users this year. Additionally, deposit refunds for cans, bottles, and reusable cups were highly popular: more than one million users claimed their refunds via Tikkie. The busiest time for requesting refunds was just after lunch, between 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm.

Strong growth in cashback

Cashback, which allows users to get money back on selected purchases, continues to grow, with a 58% increase compared to last year. Bargain hunters benefited significantly through Tikkie: the 172 campaigns collectively provided a total of €459.24 [SM1] in discounts.

Business Tikkies paid just as quickly

Tikkie also expanded its reach in the business market. This year, entrepreneurs with business accounts at banks other than ABN AMRO were able to start using Tikkie Zakelijk (Tikkie Business). By the end of the year, Tikkie had over 37,000 business users. Together, they received payments totalling more than €930 million. Business Tikkies are also paid rapidly: 40% are settled within 5 minutes, 60% within an hour, and 81% within a day. Entrepreneurs in hospitality, construction, beauty, and sports are especially active within Tikkie’s business environment.

BUUT

In 2025, Tikkie launched several campaigns and innovations, including the successful 100K campaign, which challenged advertising and marketing agencies to come up with creative concepts for the Tikkie app. In September, the creators of Tikkie launched BUUT, the first bank designed entirely from the perspective of young people. Kensmil: "It’s truly special for us, and an absolute milestone, that the Tikkie team has introduced a bank. Even more so, one that contributes to raising financial awareness among young people and the conversations they have about it with their parents."

Ten years of Tikkie

The coming year is all about an anniversary for Tikkie: in 2026, Tikkie turns ten. "If there’s one thing that’s clear, and what all these figures also show, it’s that Tikkie is inseparably connected to the Netherlands and Dutch culture. Tikkie has even been added to the Dikke van Dale. We are incredibly proud of that, and we want to celebrate it with all our fans. We’re going to give something back to the people who give us so much," says Kensmil. "This will be our most special year yet."
