Several media reported on 20 May 2014 that the current chip on bank cards ('EMV chip') is apparently unsafe due to a leak in the system.

The leak supposedly makes it easy for criminals to collect bank details, copy these onto falsified bank cards and then withdraw money or make payments. Dutch banks started taking measures to prevent this type of fraud back in 2012.  As a result, it is impossible for criminals to commit this type of fraud in the Netherlands. Using your bank card and PIN code is safe in the Netherlands.
