ABN AMRO UK is pleased to welcome Barry Garside as its new Chief Risk Officer replacing Paul Gallagher who took retirement.

Barry has 28 years’ experience in banking, and more specifically in Risk. For 17 of these years he has worked abroad, in Australia, Singapore and the US. Most recently, he was the Head of Risk Management for Commerzbank in New York until making the decision to return to the UK.

Barry's role serves as the second line of defence for the bank and ensuring that the organisation understands and monitors the various risks it takes - be they transactional or operational - and that these are taken in a controlled and measured manner. In performing this role, the Risk Department gives business units and the bank's clients the knowledge - and more importantly, the confidence - that the bank is their long term partner, sharing the goal of sustainable success.

Speaking about his new role Barry said,

The opportunity to be a part of ABN AMRO’s future is exciting, and in times of transformation of the banking landscape, Risk has a vital role in ensuring changes that the bank undergoes are not only understood, but are embraced as opportunities to strengthen our relationships with customers, and to secure our reputation as a sustainable and future-proof bank.

Gerben Dragt, UK Country Executive commented,

Barry brings a wealth of experience and I am really pleased that Barry will be strengthening our UK ExCo as our new Chief Risk Officer for the UK. Also, I would like to thank Paul Gallagher for the many years he has performed the CRO role and Richard Crannis for stepping in as ad-interim CRO.
