In celebration of International Women's Day, we’re shining a spotlight on five of our incredible colleagues. In this series of profile interviews, we celebrate their achievements, gain their insights as women in the banking and finance industry, and ask them what this year’s theme #GivetoGain means to them.

What does International Women’s Day, and this year’s theme ‘#GivetoGain’ mean to you?

International Women’s Day is both a celebration and a call to action. #GivetoGain captures a powerful fact: when we invest in women, everyone benefits. Supporting women has far-reaching implications for families, communities, workplaces, and the broader economy.

Too often, women are highly capable but may experience moments of self-doubt. In those moments, support becomes instrumental. By mentoring, sponsoring, and championing women, we create an environment where they can step forward with confidence.

What defining moments led you to a career in finance?

My path into finance was not planned, and that is something I often share to encourage others to keep an open mind. I came to the UK from a small French village (1000 inhabitants, and just about more inhabitants than cows) simply to learn English. My intention was to broaden my horizons.

To support myself while living in London, I took a role at a US brokerage firm. That practical decision turned out to be transformative. What started as a temporary job became the foundation of a long and rewarding career filled with challenges, growth, and lots of meaningful relationships. If there is one lesson in my story, I would say it is to be open to any opportunities.

How important do you think representation is, and what more do you think could be done for women in finance?

Representation is extremely important. Seeing a woman lead at the highest level sends a powerful message, not just internally at ABN AMRO, but across the entire finance industry. To further support women in finance, we need to continue mentorship programmes, and sponsorship at senior levels. It is essential to support throughout every stage of a woman’s career.

How can colleagues and peers, regardless of gender, support a more inclusive environment?

Creating an inclusive environment is a shared responsibility. Inclusion begins with awareness in how our words and behaviours can impact others. Ensuring everyone has a voice in discussions is equally impactful.

At the same time, I strongly believe that women have a particular responsibility to support one another. While many men are strong allies to women, women must also champion other women. If you are interested in joining a network that does just this, Women in Financial Markets (WIFM) offers a great balance of career coaching and education through carefully curated events.

What advice would you give to inspire other women to pursue a career in finance?

Do not be intimidated by finance. You do not need to be a “rocket scientist” - although it can help! - to succeed. What matters most is attitude, resilience, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. The industry offers a wide variety of roles from highly analytical, strategic, client-centric, to operational. You just need to find the right fit for you.
