ABN AMRO enters top 5% sustainable banks worldwide

ABN AMRO has made it to the banking sector top 5% in RobecoSAM's Sustainability Yearbook, which was published today. The bank received the Silver Class award for its sustainability achievements. The survey is held by RobecoSAM, a research institute that assesses more than 3,000 listed companies each year on their economic, social and environmental performance.
Once again, ABN AMRO has scored significantly higher in RobecoSam's global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) than the previous year. The bank was awarded 91 out of 100 points, a four point increase on 2016 and an impressive 13 point increase on 2015. The average score for the banking industry is 58 points, across 274 surveyed banks.
ABN AMRO was awarded above sector-average scores in the categories 'Impact measurement', 'Human rights' and 'Materiality'. The bank's efforts in the area of transparency, particularly in relation to social and environmental issues, were rated highly. Its progress in the areas of environmental policy and environmental management was also acknowledged with high scores in several relevant categories.
ABN AMRO CEO Kees van Dijkhuizen commented: “Together with our customers we've made great progress in the area of sustainability over a short period of time. I'm proud that RobecoSAM has acknowledged that progress by ranking us among the top 5% best performing banks in the world. We believe we still have some way to go, which is why over the past year we have launched new ambitious programmes for circularity, socially responsible investment and real estate sustainability. Next year we’ll continue our efforts to achieve further sustainability.”
