ABN AMRO in top 10% of world’s most sustainable banks

- Sustainability
ABN AMRO ranks among the top 10% of the most sustainable banks across the globe, S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook for 2021 today reveals. Once again, the bank has made the grade for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (World and Europe), the most important benchmark for its sustainability performance.
Notching up 83 points out of 100, ABN AMRO made it to the Bronze Class for its performance on sustainability. This compares with 79 points last year. This year, ABN AMRO’s gap with the industry leader narrowed to 6 points. Every year, SAM ESG Ratings and Benchmarking, an S&P Global company, assesses over 7,000 listed companies on their economic, social and environmental policies.
This outcome makes ABN AMRO one of 2021’s sustainability leaders in S&P Global’s book and one of ten Dutch companies that have made it to the top 10% in their sectors worldwide. That said, ABN AMRO has not yet achieved its ambition to be among the top 5% most sustainable banks.
The bank scores highly for its efforts in sustainable finance, transparency and human capital development, but areas for improvement were flagged as well, such as reporting on risk and crisis management.
Key benchmark
For investors and other stakeholders, ABN AMRO’s position in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) is a key indicator of its sustainability efforts. The bank itself also considers its position in the index an important gauge and aspires to be among the top 5% in its own sector.
