ABN AMRO’s Mobile Banking app reached record numbers of active users and user sessions last month. In December 2016 the app was used around 69 million times by nearly 2 million ABN AMRO clients: unprecedented monthly figures for both user sessions and active users.

One of the factors contributing to last month’s success was the addition of new functionalities such as a fingerprint scan for logging in and transferring money. Other ABN AMRO apps such as Tikkie and Grip are also rapidly gaining popularity. ABN AMRO’s Chief Digital Officer Frank Verkerk comments, ‘The app sees a great deal of use every December, thanks to the holidays. Some new functions were added to our Mobile Banking app, for example the possibility to use a fingerprint scan to log in and make iDEAL payments. These caused a surge in the number of times our clients used the app.’

Clients in control of their banking matters

ABN AMRO’s desire for its clients to have as much control as possible of their banking matters is underlined by the growing popularity of the Mobile Banking app and the addition of new features. The apps Tikkie and Grip similarly reflect this philosophy. Since their introduction last year, both these applications have rapidly become very popular with clients.
