Five questions for the winner of the ABN AMRO Innovation Challenge

- Innovation
Studio Solarix won the ABN AMRO Innovation Challenge as part of the CFP Green Buildings Event this week. Forty entrepreneurs presented their innovations and explained how their innovation will influence the world of 2030. Studio Solarix’s Marloes van Heteren explains.
What is your innovation?
“We connect green energy generation to attractive designs and smart appliances. We call this Solar Design. As a fully integrated façade system, the ‘Solarix’ is much more than just a solar panel. It is a part of the building’s skin. The panels generate green energy and can respond to their surroundings through so-called ‘LEDs’ and sensors.
What are the benefits?
A sustainably built environment that will help accelerate the energy transition with beautiful and interesting solutions. We connect sustainability, design and creativity to technology and innovation, in order to add a soft layer to buildings.
How can it be applied?
Our façades can be applied in both new-build projects and redevelopment. This allows buildings to be made sustainable with the right appearance.
Do you have other innovations in the pipeline?
We are working on new materials for our applications: a thin sheet integrated into a bio composite to open up more design freedom. We’re also working on technologies that are even more efficient at generating green energy while preserving freedom to design.
How did you experience the ABN AMRO Innovation Challenge?
It gave us a wonderful platform with a genuinely interested audience. The money we won will be invested in a demonstration project for the development of new models. We plan tocelebrate our victory by hosting a sustainable dinner party for the people who contributed to the success of Solarix.
