While the Tikkie payment app for consumers is here to stay as a convenient way to settle expenses, its business counterpart – Tikkie Zakelijk – is also making waves. The number of transactions processed through Tikkie Zakelijk grew by 25% in the past year. A survey conducted by Tikkie has shown that 46% of people in the Netherlands prefer to pay their business invoices as soon as possible.

The accessibility and convenience of the made-for-business app are key to its success. As the app enables users to pay within seconds, bills can be settled immediately and don’t end up in a drawer. Tikkie’s own data shows that 80% of business Tikkies are paid within a day and 61% even within an hour. That said, paying invoices by clicking on a link has not yet been embraced by all age groups. The over-50s in particular still appear to be less in the know, making them unsure about using this payment form.

Shifting payment preferences

A survey by Tikkie into payment preferences for business invoices has shown that a clear shift is taking place among different generations. Manually transferring money is losing ground, especially among young people. These shifting preferences are apparent in particular among those aged 50+. Younger age groups are convinced of the convenience of payment links, such as Tikkie; 72% of people in their 30s see the introduction of Tikkie for business as a positive development and 45% prefer to pay invoices through a business Tikkie. Among the over-50s, 50% of respondents say their preference is to transfer money manually; among the over-60s this is even as high as 69%.

Moreno Kensmil, Tikkie: “At Tikkie, we want to make payment as easy as possible. To do this, we zoom in on our users’ preferences and try to remove as many barriers as we can – in business too. We’re seeing that while the popularity of business Tikkies is growing, this payment form is not being adopted equally by all generations. Older age groups tend to stick with manual transfers, which they are familiar with. At the same time, we’re seeing that older people are increasingly using ‘regular’ consumer Tikkies. So we expect that this group will start embracing business Tikkies more as they become more familiar with this method of payment.”

Ease of use makes for faster payments

The survey showed that 77% of respondents under age 30 say they are inclined to pay their invoices faster if this is made easy. In the 31-39 and 40-49 age groups, too, 72% and 53% respectively mentioned ease of use as a reason for paying invoices more promptly. Interestingly, older age groups, too, stated that convenience is an important factor. The fact that the over-50s also said that they prefer to pay invoices manually shows that people still need to get used to the idea of businesses sending them Tikkies. Using payment links such as Tikkie makes this method of payment much faster than manual transfers.

*The survey was conducted by market research agency PanelWizard on behalf of Tikkie Zakelijk among 1035 Dutch people aged 18+ who usually pay their invoices themselves. The survey provides 95% reliability that the results of the sample might deviate from the true values by at most 3.1%. The survey was conducted in accordance with the ISO 20252 standards for market research.
