Update DDoS attack

- Detecting Financial Crime
ABN AMRO is well prepared to defend itself against DDoS attacks thanks to the security measures it has put in place. Unfortunately, a small number of clients may experience these measures as an obstacle. They may, for example, run into error notifications and blank screens while using Internet Banking or the website. The ABN AMRO website offers solutions for several issues that may arise.
Like other banks and institutions, ABN AMRO has recently been targeted by DDoS attacks. On 18 April 2020 between 2.45 pm and 3.15 pm, these attacks led to a short disruption of ourinternet banking, mobile banking and iDEAL services. The attack lasted until early evening but didn’t lead to further disruption of the systems.
DDoS stands for Distributed Denial of Service. During a DDoS attack, a website is flooded with data traffic. This overloads the server and makes it difficult to visit the website.
A DDoS attack is not the same as hacking. It doesn’t compromise the security of internet banking, mobile banking and iDEAL. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused to our clients by the attack or our countermeasures. We urge our clients to on the lookout for phishing mails. ABN AMRO always reports DDoS attacks.
