Marine Money awards ABN AMRO with Green Ship Finance deal of the year

News item -

Yesterday Marine Money announced that ABN AMRO was awarded the Green Ship Finance deal of the year for the Sofcomflot financing of six Aframax tankers, the first ever LNG fuelled vessels in this asset class.

New environmental standards

Together with BNP Paribas, Citibank, ING Bank, KfW IPEX-Bank and Societe Generale, ABN AMRO was invited to participate in the USD 252 million 7-year senior secured credit facility. The funds will be used towards financing a series of six Aframax tankers, the first-ever LNG fuelled vessels in this asset class. These innovative vessels set new environmental standards for the global tanker industry through adopting cleaner-burning LNG as a primary fuel for Aframax tankers.

Industry applauds our ambitions for sustainable shipping

Marine Money awarded this financing as Green Ship Finance Deal of the year. It is interesting to note that this is the new category, which was established only this year and in many aspects inspired exactly by this Aframax transaction: “a new category that will take on greater and greater importance as companies, financial institutions and shareholders all strive for greater environmental, social and governance performance measures.” Being awarded this price shows how the industry applauds CIB’s ambitions for sustainable shipping and our strategy to accelerate the sustainability shift.
