ABN AMRO now offers clients throughout the Netherlands the possibility of conducting mortgage consultations on Sundays via webcam. ABN AMRO is the first Ditch bank to be open for mortgage advice seven days a week.

The Dutch housing market is booming, and has been for some time now. Homes come up for sale every day of the week, and prospective buyers can see what is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ABN AMRO’s Managing Director of Retail Banking Frans Woelders explains, ‘Before, clients could contact the bank for mortgage advice six days a week. It is ABN AMRO’s ambition to be available to offer its clients mortgage advice whenever and wherever they want. That includes Sundays.’

Last month the bank piloted the concept of mortgage consultations on Sundays. Clients requesting a mortgage consultation were offered Sundays as a possibility. Clients go online and use a program called WebEx to talk to their adviser at the bank via webcam and to share all the necessary financial documents and other paperwork. This pilot has met with favourable response from clients, and ABN AMRO has decided to roll it out nationwide.

More and more clients are opting for mortgage consultations via webcam, from the comfort of their own homes. ABN AMRO introduced webcam mortgage consultations late in 2011, and in 2012 this feature was used for some 2,000 consultations leading to almost 500 mortgages. Around 25% of the bank’s mortgage consultations are now conducted via webcam. It is ABN AMRO’s ambition to raise this number to 50%.
