The ABN AMRO Art & History department manages one of the largest collections of securities in the Netherlands: many thousands of certificates for stocks and bonds that no longer have any financial value, but which do represent about 200 years of economic history. Also internationally, since the Dutch began to show a preference for foreign investments as of the eighteenth century. Elaborate designs were often used for these certificates in order to prevent counterfeiting: some of these are truly impressive feats of graphic artistry. All of the well-known Dutch enterprises are present: Heineken, KLM, Hoogovens, Philips and so on. The certificates used to decorate the walls in Circl are all original copies.
