ABN AMRO collaborates with BeleggerUitlegger to guide the young generation in investing

Today, ABN AMRO started a multi-year collaboration with non-profit organisation BeleggerUitlegger and celebrated this with a traditional Gong ceremony at the stock exchange in Amsterdam. The young generation is increasingly confronted with investing and stepping into the world of shares, ETFs and crypto. However, they often lack the knowledge to do this responsibly. With this collaboration, ABN AMRO aims to contribute to a financially agile and independent generation.
The younger generation is investing online with ease
The number of young people investing their money is growing rapidly. Figures from the National Institute for Family Finance Information (Nibud) from 2022 show that only 18% invested in 2018, but by 2022 this had risen to 42%. Many young people invest via apps and digital platforms. They are digitally skilled and prefer to get their information from short online personal content like videos. However, shows that they find it difficult to distinguish between correct information and disinformation, which can lead to risky impulse purchases and investments. It is essential to educate the younger generation about finances through initiatives like BeleggerUitlegger to prevent them from making impulsive decisions, taking irresponsible risks and having unrealistic expectations.
Young people financially resilient
Choy van der Hooft-Cheong, Chief Commercial Officer Wealth Management at ABN AMRO: “This collaboration marks the next step for ABN AMRO in the field of financial education for young people. It is important that the new generation learns to take financial responsibility themselves. With BeleggerUitlegger, we aim to help build a financially agile and independent future generation. One that is better prepared for the challenges of the financial world, but also knows how to make optimal use of opportunities.”
Petri Hofsté, chairperson SCA: Our mission is to provide young people and educators with free access to clear, reliable, and comprehensible information about investing. We believe that everyone, regardless of background or level of knowledge, should have the opportunity to develop financial literacy and understand how investing and financial markets work. Equipped with financial knowledge, young people can make better choices for their future and, for example, be more resistant to the promises of 'golden mountains' made by financial influencers.
