Starting today, 60,000 ABN AMRO customers can pay in a new way. With a new payment card, they can make contactless payment at Schiphol and at the checkout of more than 150 stores and restaurants in Leiden. You do not need to enter a pin code. This introduction starts simultaneously with the start of mobile payment by telephone by ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank in Leiden using the same technology.
Gijs Schreuder, director of paying private individuals at ABN AMRO: "This new method of payment is faster and easier and moreover more efficient for retailers. It is just as safe as paying with a pin code with the current payment card".
The other ABN AMRO customers will receive the new payment card from the beginning of November when their old card needs replacing. The card is also suitable for 'normal' debit card payments in stores, cash withdrawals and chip cards.
The new pass can be used to pay at payment terminals by holding the pass against the payment terminal. A pin code is not required. For purchases up to a maximum of 25 euros or for a maximum of 50 euros in small amounts, one can pay contactlessly in succession, before a PIN code is requested again. The payments are directly debited from the payment account. ABN AMRO will reimburse the damage in the event of fraud.
From the end of this year there will be more and more locations throughout the Netherlands where contactless payments can be made with a payment card. It is not yet known when ABN AMRO will introduce mobile payment.
