To ensure that clients can continue to bank securely in the future, ABN AMRO will be asking them, from June 2026 onwards, to choose a new way of logging in. Between June and December 2026, consumer clients who use the e.dentifier for Internet Banking will be asked in phases to select a new login method.
Why these changes?
As a bank, we have a responsibility to always stay ahead in keeping our clients’ accounts and personal data secure. We are taking action now to stay ahead of potential risks, rather than only responding once a direct risk arises – because by then, it would be too late.
Clients can choose between the ABN AMRO app or a USB security key:
The ABN AMRO app: log in or approve Internet Banking transactions via the app.
Security key: an alternative for clients who do not want to or are unable to use a smartphone. (A one-off fee of € 10 applies for the security key.)
Internet Banking remains the same; only logging in and approval will change
Transfers, payments and other day-to-day banking activities will continue to work in exactly the same way. Only the way clients log in and approve transactions will change.
Phased and controlled approach
The introduction of the new login methods will take place in a controlled, phased manner. Clients do not need to apply for anything and will be notified automatically. When it is their turn, they will receive an [email/letter] clearly explaining the available options and the exact steps they can take at that time.
Personal support during the transition
ABN AMRO understands that some clients may need time to adjust to these changes. That is why personal support is available for clients who need it.
Clear step-by-step explanations, instructional videos and easy-to-understand guides.
A dedicated helpline where trained advisers provide immediate help by phone.
200 Help with Banking advisers who support clients in choosing and setting up their preferred option.
Support via SeniorWeb at more than 530 locations across the Netherlands.
Collaboration with interest groups
To make the new login methods and support as accessible and easy to understand as possible, ABN AMRO is working closely with independent experts. Together with organisations including the Consumers’ Association, ANBO, SOM NL, the Dutch Payments Association, the Eye Association and KBO-NCW, the bank has tested its approach to ensure it meets the needs of all clients as fully as possible.
Large and small business clients to follow in 2027 These changes apply to consumer clients only. ABN AMRO Mees Pierson and business clients are not part of this phase. They will be asked to move to a new login method from mid-2027 onwards.
