Four sports associations with important paralympic programmes are working together with ABN AMRO to host the Paralympic Talent Camp. This training camp, which will take place in Sittard, the Netherlands, will see forty talents aged 12 to 20 gather for intensive training from 2 to 6 May. The goal is to prepare these men and women for a life as top athletes – and eventually the Paralympic Games.

The sportsmen and women are each specialised in either athletics, basketball, swimming or tennis. At the Paralympic Games hosted in London, these four disciplines combined won nearly two out of every three medals. In addition to training programmes in their respective sports, the athletes attending the talent camp will also participate in strength training together. They will also learn more about the life of a top athlete, such as how to get most out of a social media presence. Furthermore, Joost Leenders from the Talent Academy will host a special workshop focused on mental strength, self-knowledge, stress management, and personal development – in other words, everything that will help these young men and women achieve the best possible performance.

Ticket to Rio

This spring marks the second time ABN AMRO is hosting the Talent Camp. Lara Baars is a young top athlete who attended the first Camp last year. Partially thanks to the Camp and ABN AMRO's support, Lara Baars has been able to participate in the World Championships in Doha were she won a silver medal in the shot-put. This achievement meant she received a ticket and placement for Rio.

High level training

Chef de Mission Paralympic TeamNL André Cats said: “It's important to invest in new talents, to secure a pipeline of new top athletes. This Paralympic Talent Camp plays a central role. During this week, the foundations will hopefully be laid for many future paralympic triumphs. Encouraging sportsmen and women from various disciplines to train together creates opportunities for them to exchange valuable information and knowledge.”

Talent development sports for the disabled

The Paralympic Talent Camp initiative was launched with the purpose of helping today's talents realise their dreams. ABN AMRO Manager Sponsoring & Events Ernst Boekhorst: “During the first edition of the Camp, we saw our talents experience growth in several aspects. In addition to the development of their skills in their own sports, the Talent Camp also serves to boost integration between various sports and sportsmen and women. As a Partner of the Future, ABN AMRO is eager to help these talents develop into the future's finest athletes.”
