ABN AMRO opens office in Brazil

Today, ABN AMRO has officially inaugurated its Representative Office in São Paulo, Brazil.


The office consists of staff of Energy, Commodities and Transportation (ECT) with initial focus on Commodities (Agri and Metals). The establishment is to support the Commodities financing activities in the Brazilian and South American markets.

Harris Antoniou, Managing Director of Energy, Commodities and Transportation comments: "Reestablishing the Brazilian rep office is part of a wider initiative of the bank to its global ECT branch network. In all ECT sectors Brazil is an important player. The country is the world’s largest producer and exporter of soy, concentrated orange juice, sugar, coffee, beef, poultry, tobacco, as well as iron ore. Furthermore, São Paulo is considered as the financial hub for Latin America. We are proud to be able to be of service again to our Brazilian clients."

Rick Torken, Country Executive Brazil and Global Head of ECT-Agri Commodities: "We are very excited about this important step in the reconstruction of our international network. ABN AMRO had a successful presence in Brazil since 1916. Today, economic stability combined with competitive cost advantages has made Brazil a global force in agricultural commodities, iron ore, steel, non-ferrous metals and recently oil and gas production.”

To achieve the ambitions in Brazil, ABN AMRO has strengthen its team in Sao Paulo. Fausto Caron has been appointed as Head of Commodities Brazil and brings with him almost 10 years of experience in commodities as well as in Energy Commodities. Fausto will be joined by Victor Carneiro and Fabio Vernille who together will join the Agri Commodities team. Both Victor and Fabio have ample experience in Lending, Capital Markets and Investment Banking in the agricultural commodities field in Brazil.
