As per today, new customers can sign up with ABN AMRO using their smartphone. For identification the bank will request photos of your identity card or passport, a portrait picture (selfie), and an iDeal payment transfer of €0.01. ABN AMRO is the first Dutch major bank where new customers can sign up using a selfie.
Managing Director of Retail Banking Frans Woelders explains: 'We see smartphone use among our customers grow by the day. To accommodate them, we now offer the opportunity to sign up with just your phone. Becoming a customer using a mobile device is quick and efficient, as you can do so without visiting a bank branch.'
Recenty, ABN AMRO has been putting the new method to the test within the bank's Usability Lab. A pilot was also launched in six ABN AMRO offices across the Netherlands. The bank will continue investing in new and innovative ways to serve its customers faster and better.
The Mobile Banking App is currently used 57 million times a month. In September 2015, the app underwent a major upgrade to allow the retrieval of credit card data as well.
