Tikkie ends 2025 with impressive figures: Dutch users sent over 170 million Tikkies this year, totalling €8.5 billion in payments. Annual records have been broken once again, marking a notable milestone: one billion paid Tikkies since the app’s launch in 2016.

The popularity of the Tikkie payment app is unprecedented. After already hitting record highs in 2020 and 2021, this year once again saw more Tikkie payment requests ('Tikkies') being sent than ever before. In 2022, 130 million Tikkies were shared for payments totalling €5.5 billion, far surpassing the record of €4.2 billion set last year. The total Tikkie payment volume since its launch more than six years now amounts to over €16.8 billion. The average value of a Tikkie payment has also increased this year: that’s now €41.84, more than 3 euros higher than the average last year.

Tikkie launches ‘Tikkie Zakelijk’ – a separate made-for-business app

With ‘Tikkie Zakelijk’, which translates as Tikkie Business, ABN AMRO offers companies a dedicated app they can use to create and send ‘Tikkies’ (payment requests) to their customers and get paid quickly and easily. The new app provides business owners real-time insight into the status of all their payments. Tikkie Zakelijk emerged thanks to the rapid growth in the number of business users of Tikkie, which has already topped 25,000.

Tikkie hits new annual high: 6.6 billion euros in payments in 2023

De populariteit van Tikkie is ook in 2023 onverminderd groot. In totaal is dit jaar voor ruim 6,6 miljard euro aan Tikkies verrekend. Het record van vorig jaar - 5,5 miljard euro - is hiermee opnieuw verbroken. Het totale bedrag dat sinds de start van Tikkie, ruim zeven jaar geleden, met de app is betaald, komt hiermee op ruim 25,2 miljard euro. Daarnaast is het totale aantal betaalde Tikkies – 150 miljoen - hoger dan ooit en dan moeten de feestdagen nog beginnen. De drukste Tikkie-dag van dit jaar was vrijdag 24 november, met bijna 596.000 betaalde Tikkies. Dat is geen toeval, want op die dag was het Black Friday en gingen veel Nederlanders massaal op koopjesjacht.

The Tikkie payment app keeps on gaining popularity. In 2021, Tikkie reached the threshold of 100 million transactions, representing a total of over 4.2 billion euros worth of Tikkies and shattering the previous year’s record of 3.4 billion euros. This brings the total amount paid through Tikkie over the past five and a half years to over eleven billion euros. The value of the average Tikkie has also risen slightly: at 38.74 euros it’s up by over three euros compared to the previous year.

‘Orange fever’ is set to grip Tikkie again

It’s almost time: on 26 April, everything in the Netherlands turns orange and we all claim a spot for the nationwide flea market. It's the day we make someone happy with stuff that didn't survive our own spring clean. It’s also the day we send and pay masses of Tikkie payment requests – for everything from beers and food to QR codes to pay for things at the flea market. It’s already impossible to imagine this festive day without the Tikkie app. Ahead of this year’s King’s Day, here’s a short recap: in 2024, the Dutch sent a whopping 612,000 Tikkies on King's Day – an increase of 24 per cent on 2023. Compared with an average day in 2024, that was 33 per cent more Tikkies and 12 times as many payments via Tikkie QR codes.

Number of ‘Tikkie Zakelijk’ transactions up 25%

While the Tikkie payment app for consumers is here to stay as a convenient way to settle expenses, its business counterpart – Tikkie Zakelijk – is also making waves. The number of transactions processed through Tikkie Zakelijk grew by 25% in the past year. A survey conducted by Tikkie has shown that 46% of people in the Netherlands prefer to pay their business invoices as soon as possible.

Tikkie now available in Germany

Payment app Tikkie is going international. From today, anyone with a German bank account can use this hip and handy app to ask money back from friends and acquaintances. Marketed by ABN AMRO subsidiary Moneyou, the German version of Tikkie is nearly identical to the Dutch one.
