Ralph Saul, Senior Product Manager, Debit Cards & Mobile Payments: "It’s really very simple: the client receives – on separate days – a letter with an activation code, a letter containing their PIN, and the debit card itself together with a covering letter. He or she calls the telephone number 0800 0240721 (free from within the Netherlands) and keys in the activation code. The number can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And if the client would rather visit a branch to activate their card, they will still be able to do so."
Replacement debit card
The procedure for activating a replacement debit card remains unchanged. "The bank sends out around 700,000 debit cards each year to clients whose existing debit card has been lost or stolen, for example or has expired", Saul explains. "These cards are activated automatically the first time they are used to withdraw cash or make a payment."
