ABN AMRO and OVG Real Estate have announced that they will work together to redevelop vacant buildings. This autumn the partners will start work on transforming a total of 50,000+ square metres of commercial real estate. Soon the market will be four new sustainable office buildings richer, spread across Amsterdam and Rotterdam. ABN AMRO has created its first official green loan to finance the project.
This year, ABN AMRO made a steep climb up the globally renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DSJI) ranking. ABN AMRO scored 87 out of 100 points, nine points higher than in 2015. This puts the bank in the top 15% in the banking industry.
Rating and research agency FTSE4Good has, following the June 2016 review, added ABN AMRO to the FTSE4Good Index. Upon its entry to the index ABN AMRO becomes one of the top 15% banks worldwide on the list.
ABN AMRO has issued its second ‘Euro green bond’, a senior unsecured green bond that has beencertified by Oekom and Climate Bond Initiative.
ABN AMRO is helping commercial real estate clients make the transition to sustainable real estate. It has launched an online application with which commercial real estate clients can calculate various figures related to energy-saving measures, including carbon reduction figures and return times. ABN AMRO has made one billion euros in financing available for these investments and connects clients with partners. The initiative has been developed in partnership with CFP consultancy.
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), the world’s foremost assessment method and rating system for buildings, awarded ABN AMRO the international prize for most sustainable in-use office building on Tuesday 8 March 2016 in London. ABN AMRO’s head office in Amsterdam won in the category ‘In-use office building - international’ on account of the sustainable measures that have been taken over the past years and the results realised.
Sustainable investments are becoming increasingly popular among clients of ABN AMRO. The bank’s sustainable investments grew to a record high of EUR 6.3 billion in 2015, with clients in the Netherlands accounting for around EUR 3.7 billion of this total. This is an increase of 19% compared with 2014, and the bank expects these investments to grow further in 2016.

Anthony Veder Group (Issuer), ABN AMRO (Sole Arranger) and Delta Lloyd Asset Management (Sole Investor) are pleased to announce that the Anthony Veder €66 million Euro Private Placement concluded in the fourth quarter of 2015 has been confirmed as the first sustainable shipping loan fully certified according to the Clean Shipping Index Guidelines by Bureau Veritas, which also verified the green credentials of this transaction. This is a landmark transaction in the global shipping industry which to date has, not joined the ranks of verified sustainable financing.
ABN AMRO has published the Circular Economy Guide to help companies draw up a business case that will accelerate the move towards a circular economy. The manual describes the steps needed to adjust business models and production chains to a new economic model in which waste is eliminated, raw materials are recycled perpetually, and businesses offer services rather than products. In order to make this transition, all parties in the production chain need to work together. The first edition of the Circular Economy Guide was presented on 21 January on the occasion of the New Year’s event of MVO Nederland, the Dutch association for corporate social responsibility.

ABN AMRO took up the Green Quest challenge in November 2014. The Green Quest is a sustainability initiative of Dutch daily Het Financieele Dagblad and BNR News Radio in collaboration with Cofely, GDF SUEZ Nederland and SITA. ABN AMRO’s challenge was to improve the sustainability of the bank’s head office at Gustav Mahlerlaan in Amsterdam and its bank branch in Alkmaar by the end of 2015. Now, a year later, ABN AMRO is presenting the results.
ABN AMRO is pleased to announce that it has lowered the threshold for its Sustainable Investment Mandate to EUR 100,000. This will open up sustainable investment in the form of a mandate to more of the bank’s retail clients. In addition, these clients will now receive more comprehensive details about the sustainability performance of the companies where their funds are invested.
ABN AMRO proudly announces the opening of the first energy-neutral bank office in the Netherlands. Located in Alkmaar, the building generates 100 percent of its own energy. Johan van Hall, Vice-Chairman of ABN AMRO’s Managing Board, officially opened the building on the morning of Wednesday, 11 November – the day on which the office was awarded a BREEAM Excellent certificate for buildings, the leading European standard for sustainability performances.
ABN AMRO is organising an International Human Rights Conference on 9 December 2015. The conference will focus on issues such as human trafficking, slavery and child labour, chain responsibility and corporate transparency on human rights. Politicians, government representatives, NGOs, and national and international businesses and financial institutions, and ABN AMRO employees are being invited to the event.
