ABN AMRO announces today that it has reached an agreement with Societe Generale on the acquisition of Societe Generale Private Banking NV, the private banking subsidiary of Societe Generale in Belgium. By combining ABN AMRO’s existing private banking activities in Belgium with those of Societe Generale, ABN AMRO strengthens its market position in Belgium and its position in the Eurozone as a leading private bank.

House prices look set to surpass earlier projections by climbing even higher, on the back of interest rates probably staying at lower levels. In its latest report on the Dutch residential property market, the Housing Market Monitor (in Dutch only), ABN AMRO’s Group Economics predicts an average 2018 increase in house prices of 8.5% relative to 2017. Until quite recently, ABN AMRO’s economists had forecast an 8% advance, and they have now also sharply bumped up their projections for 2019: a 7% uptick in house prices, significantly higher than the 5% it predicted previously.
ABN AMRO has taken notice of a press release, issued by the Ministry of Finance on 29 June 2018, regarding the loss of tax deductibility of AT1 (Additional Tier 1) instruments as from 1 January 2019. ABN AMRO continues to value the role of AT1 in its capital structure.
ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank today launched joint circular-economy finance guidelines, inspired by the ambition to create a joint framework for financing the circular economy. The guidelines meet a need for better insight into financial backing for the circular economy and aim to help drive such financing. They have been formally presented to Stientje van Veldhoven, the Netherlands’ Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management, on behalf of the FinanCE Working Group, putting the three banks firmly at the forefront of international trends.
On June 28th it has been announced that Helen Verhoeven (1974, Leiden) has won the eighth edition of the ABN AMRO Art Award. In March 2019 an exhibition of her work, which is part of the prize, will open at the Hermitage Amsterdam, and in Circl.ART, ABN AMRO’s art project space on the Zuidas. From Friday 22 March 2019 the exhibition will be open to the public.

Green Pay has scooped the most valuable prototype to come out of the 2018 Beyond Banking Days. By using Green Pay to pay for items, the product will go back into the supply chain after use, making manufacturers - and not consumers - responsible for any waste. By turning the process on its head, Green Pay's makers hope to encourage manufacturers to make more sustainable choices before going into the manufacturing process. ABN AMRO selected the R3 app from an unprecedentedly strong field of participants of no less than 56 selected teams. Together, 288 hackers spent the past 48 hours working non-stop on the bank of the future.
Despite geopolitical uncertainties and the associated likelihood of more volatile markets, ABN AMRO believes that the investment climate remains favourable. In its new Investment Strategy for June 2018, ABN AMRO argues that equities will continue to drive portfolio returns during the second half of 2018. The BREEAM functionality has been added to ABN AMRO’s Sustainable Investment Tool, which now gives users more than just energy savings information. Today, the ABN AMRO BREEAM-NL In-Use QuickScan is being officially launched at the Provada Real Estate Fair at RAI Amsterdam.

In this game, players are challenged to prevent a worldwide financial meltdown. Using Augmented Reality technology, The Lockdown transforms every ordinary room into a virtual escape room.
