Your job

Operational risks are the risks that the bank runs due to human error, failing systems, shortcomings in processes and external events. Operational risk management (ORM) is a second line function with responsibility to ensure ABN AMRO is 'in control' of these risks worldwide. ORM is a knowledge and expertise center  with responsibility for establishing a culture that aims to identify, evaluate, monitor, test and, where possible, to mitigate those risks so that the organization optimally protects its assets, reputation and employees. This applies to the Netherlands, international branches and the subsidiaries. ORM operates within the parameters of the 'risk appetite' and is responsible for implementing a strategy that results in limiting losses. As Operational Risk Manager I for Finance you facilitate, support and challenge the finance organization and the business risk manager in implementing and executing the ORM framework. The Finance organization consists of the following subject areas: Financial Accounting, Controlling, Tax, Asset Liability Management and Treasury. The ORM framework contains a.o. strategic risk assessments, risk control self-assessments, change risk assessments, scenario-analysis, issue  management and action tracking, and monitoring and testing of Finance (entity level) control assessments. At ABN AMRO we use our knowledge, expertise and our network to enable customers to achieve their goals on the basis of responsible decisions. Customers’ interests always come first. We want customers to understand our products and sometimes do not sell if the risk of a product for a customer is too high. Customer interest is also means communicating clearly and coming up with smart solutions that really make the difference. That is our goal!

Your working environment

You step aboard a team consisting of approximately 60 Operational Risk Managers and work on assignments in multidisciplinary teams.  You are expected to give and receive 360 degree feedback. This allows you to know your talents and strengthen them.  Within your team you determine which team assignments you participate in and which role you play in the team. You do this based on your knowledge and experience with certain subjects or because the assignment brings you to an area that you do not yet know very well.In recent years the ORM department, together with the responsible business lines, has built and implemented a robust risk and control framework according to the Advanced Measurement Approach (AMA) from the Basel Accords. Our next step? Moving from 'instrument management' to 'true risk management'. This way we keep talking to each other about the biggest and most important risks. We want to achieve this by working in a flexible organization with people who want to achieve something, are cooperative and are willing to go along in a rapidly changing world.
