The board of ABN AMRO Foundation consists of six members, two of whom are independent. The board defines ABN AMRO Foundation’s strategy and policies, while also supervising its finances and the implementation of its annual plan. The foundation is headed up by a director in charge of its daily affairs, and its activities are carried out by eight passionate and enthusiastic ABN AMRO members of staff.

The board meets at least three times a year, with the director and staff reporting on finances and on the progress of the annual plan. The board is not remunerated, but may claim expenses they incur in the course of their duties.

Board members and director

Chairman Robert Swaak

Chairman of the ABN AMRO Managing Board

'As a major bank in the Netherlands, ABN AMRO has strong ties to society – and that carries a great responsibility. By working together with schools and with voluntary help from our employees, ABN AMRO Foundation supports underprivileged children in the Netherlands. In this way, we are giving back to society and building a brighter future.'

Board member Klaas Ariaans

Director of Personal Banking at ABN AMRO

'Doing something for - and with - someone who is less fortunate than I am gives me a fantastic feeling. Like playing sports or painting together. Giving them just a little bit of attention. It takes very little effort, but you get so much in return.'

Board member Carole Thate

General Manager of World of Johan Cruyff

'As a former top athlete, I know first-hand that being encouraged to discover your talent is so important to development. Figuring out where your strengths lie - whether in sport, art or anything else - gives you self-confidence you can build on for the rest of your life.'

Board member Jan van Rutte

Member of the Supervisory Board of De Volksbank NV, member of the Supervisory Board of PGGM NV and BNG Bank NV

'ABN AMRO employees have always been socially engaged. We don’t shout this from the rooftops, but they have been offering their time, knowledge and expertise to vulnerable groups in society for many years. Their help often gives these people the support they need to take a step forward.'

Board member Wendie Cornelissen

Retail Banking

'ABN AMRO’s employees who volunteer through ABN AMRO Foundation encourage children and young people to broaden their horizons and bring out the best in themselves. To me, actively contributing to the growth of young people who will benefit from this for the rest of their lives is one of the best things you can do.'

Director Ernst Boekhorst

Head of Brand, Sponsoring & Foundation

'I love seeing thousands of ABN AMRO employees making a difference by taking part in the foundation’s activities every year. It’s so important for children to find out what they’re good at. With the help of our volunteers, we’re broadening these youngsters’ horizons, and that’s very rewarding work.'

Annual account

While compiling and auditing the 2019 annual account of ABN AMRO Foundation, a delay occurred in making the last adjustments and substantiating those adjustments. Therefore the board of ABN AMRO Foundation has decided to postpone the publication of the balance sheet, statement of income and expenditure and explanations on the website of the Foundation until the adjustments and adequate substantiation can be coordinated with the accountant, for a maximum period of 4 months.
