Access to reliable and affordable energy is key to our wellbeing and prosperity. Because ABN AMRO recognises that this also involves significant sustainability risks, our policy is aimed at responsible management of the environmental, social and ethical (ESE) risks and impacts of activities in the energy sector.

That is why the bank does not finance new coal-fired power plants, for example, nor oil extraction from tar sands and the pipelines needed for this. We also assess clients and transactions by means of questionnaires, which rate the extent to which our clients have processes and policies in place to manage the ESE risks and impacts of their business.
